In its bid to double wild tiger numbers by 2022, WWF has launched a first-of-its kind virtual reality (VR) video as part of a new awareness and fundraising campaign. The VR video can be viewed here.
The innovative VR ‘Tiger Experience’ uses computer graphics to tell an immersive story in which viewers step into the boots of a ranger, coming face to face with wild tigers from the comfort and safety of their own homes. Created by BEcause Experiential Marketing, the virtual reality experience involves the viewer wandering through the tigers’ forest habitat, where they witness the work of rangers. In this virtual forest it becomes strikingly clear that rangers risk their lives on a daily basis to protect tigers from poaching.
Kerry Blackstock, Director of Public Fundraising at WWF-UK said provigil without prescription “Sadly 95% of tigers were lost in just 100 years due to threats like poaching and habitat loss. 2016 marks the half way point of global efforts to double wild tiger numbers and for the first time in conservation history, we’ve seen a rise in wild tiger numbers to around 3,900.
“We’re at a pivotal moment but we need a monumental push forward to ensure tiger numbers continue to increase up to and beyond 2022. To do this we need commitment and dedication from all tiger range governments but also the passion and unwavering support of the general public.
We hope that our new tiger experience will not only raise awareness of the tireless efforts of our incredible rangers, some of our true heroes in the field, but also inspire the nation to help us protect the tiger for generations to come.”
The experience was launched over the last two weeks at Westfield shopping centres in London, where thousands took part in the VR experience. Surrounded by a pop-up ‘forest’ shoppers learned more about the plight of wild tigers and WWF’s aim to double wild tiger numbers by 2022 – the next Chinese Year of the Tiger.
WWF is encouraging people to share the VR video as widely as they can to double the number of people viewing it, as rangers in the field work to double the number of wild tigers. WWF hopes to inspire support and funding for tangible solutions, like training and equipping rangers, with this innovative campaign. As this is a global campaign, WWF-India and WWF-Singapore have also launched the Tiger Experience video in shopping malls this week, with other network offices to join the campaign in the coming weeks.
The video can be viewed with a normal laptop, but for the most genuine experience, viewers can use a VR headset with most smartphones to immerse themselves in the forest environment. Cheaper options include cardboard viewers.
